Brighten Up Your Neighborhood!

Hello, wonderful artists! Today, I wanted to show you a new art project that you can use to help brighten up your neighborhood. Kids all around the world are hanging rainbows on their windows and doors to help cheer up their neighbors during this time when we are not able to be together!

 To make a rainbow, you will need:
  • any kind of paper
  • colorful art supplies (paint, markers, crayons, or colored pencils will work)
  • tape
Here are the steps!
  • Get out a white piece of paper.

  • Remember, the order of the colors in the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. If you don't have all the colors, just use the ones you have in the order of the rainbow and skip the others.
  • Start with violet (purple) on the bottom to make sure I have enough room for the smallest part of my rainbow. Paint or draw an upside-down "u" shape.

  • Add the other colors above it, going in the backwards order of the rainbow until you get to red.


  • After you add your rainbow, write a positive message above or below your rainbow. Ideas include:
    • We love our neighbors!
    • Let's all be well!
    • Here's a rainbow to brighten your day!
  • Sign your name on your paper.

  • Hang your paper on a window or door so your neighbors can see it!

Today is a rainy day, so I have a fun indoor activity for you! We are going to be creating paper towel tie dye art. It is easy to do with just a few materials! You will need: paper towels markers rubber bands a spray bottle with water (you can sprinkle water on the paper towel with your fingers if you don't have a spray bottle) wax paper, newspaper, cardboard, or any material you can put underneath your paper towel while you spray it and as it dries. Plate Face!

Today we have another fun activity in honor of Earth Day this week! We will be using everyday objects to make faces. You will be repurposing objects to turn them into art. When you are done with your art, you can put the object back and it can go back to doing its normal job, so nothing is wasted! For this activity, you will need: any solid colored plate household objects for facial features camera/phone with camera Once you have your plate, search around your house for objects that might look like facial features. Think about the eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears, and hair. You could even add a silly hat or a bow tie...whatever you can add to be creative will make your face more unique! You can stick to a theme, like candy... Or you can just use a variety of random objects put together! See if you can come up with a silly expression for your face. Happy Star Wars Week!

Yesterday was May the 4th, which is unofficially called Star Wars Day (we say "May the Fourth be with you!") on May 4th. We are going to go ahead and make this week all about Star Wars.
